If you do not have PowerPoint on your system you will have to load the free PowerPoint Viewer from Microsoft in order to view it.
Click here for the 2010 version.  It is compatible with Windows 7;Windows Vista Service Pack 1;Windows Vista Service Pack 2;Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Click here for the 2007 version which works with Windows 2000 (as well as the later versions of Windows above).
If you have Windows 98SE click here for the 2003 version.  The first 2 have full instructions.  This one does not (it is no longer on the Microsoft website though it still works).  Make a note of the folder to which you are downloading and the name of the file you are downloading (ppviewer.exe).  Once the file is downloaded open the folder and double click the file to start the installation process.  Follow the instructions on screen.  You may delete the file ppviewer.exe once you have run the installation process.  Check that the viewer is working before doing this.

If you have Open Office on your computer you can open the downloaded file in the presentation package Impress (sometimes referred to as Simpress).  It will not have the custom animations i.e. all the slide will load at the same time instead of point by point when you run the slide show.  Libre Office also has a presentation package which will open PowerPoint files.
